If you have minor children who were born or adopted during the marriage, Illinois Supreme Court Rule 924 requires both parents, with limited exceptions, to attend a parenting education program before the divorce will be granted. This program lasts four hours and covers the subjects of visitation and custody, and their impact on children. Parents do NOT need to attend the course together.
There is a fee for the course which varies based upon the parent’s income. The class is offered at various times to accommodate parents’ schedules. Classes fill up so it is a good idea to sign up early in the divorce process. Upon completion, you will receive a certificate.
